Basic Application Guidelines
-Since this game takes place in college, I ask that applicants be
at least 16 years of age, not just because of potential vulgar content,
but also because of the completely different mindset that exists in college. No one really cares if you're goth or if you're "different" or if you're a "prep" in college. It doesn't make you special.
-Have a friend or a game member read the application
before you send it in for proofreading or to check for anything
goofy. As a side note, if it takes your friend more than one sitting
to just read through the application, it might be too long.
-Don't go overboard with your application. If the application itself
is about four pages in Microsoft Word, then the character profile
should be between eight and thirteen pages. Fourteen to twenty pages
is pushing it, and more than twenty pages is just too much. I like
reading as much as everyone else, but it's a pain to have a bunch
of applications that are eighteen or more pages long, and it seriously
slows down the review process.
Here are a few tips to avoid making your application too long:
*Avoid flowery writing. Being brief is usually much better than
being long winded. I suggest you avoid using too many adverbs; they
can take up a lot of space.
*Don't make a lot of side comments that are irrelevant to the actual
character in the application.
*A complete psychological analysis of your character in the personality
section is not necessary--if you know every single nook and cranny
of your character's psyche right from the get-go, you don't have
room for growth and growth makes a character so much more exciting
to play.
*Your character's history shouldn't be entirely boring--We're starting
out at nineteen+ years old, not sixteen--but don't feel obligated
to pack it with loads of events just so their history isn't totally
boring. Also, don't go into specific details unless something is
particularly important to the character's development (why they
are the way they are, or why they might become what they become).
*Likes and dislikes don't need to be explained in the likes and
dislikes section. If there's a particularly strange one, or you
feel that one needs explaining, you can cover it in a few sentences
in the history and personality sections.
- A six-page application is probably not going to get accepted,
and anything less is far too little. If you feel that you can execute
a wonderful application in a small space, feel free to do so.
Here are some tips to beef up your application while avoiding padding:
*Spend time on your application! There's no need to rush. Average
time spent on a decent application is at least a week. Don't write
everything up in one day and then submit it. Write some stuff up,
give it a day, then go over it in the morning because you're sure
to find stuff you don't like.
*Make sure your character's sailor attack description covers things
like anything that would blatantly oppose/resist it (earth vs lightning,
water vs fire, etc), what its range is, if it can damage civilians/fellow
senshi, how many times it can be used per day.
*Do basically the same thing for any extra supernatural or regular
skills your character has--define limits for them, especially.
*Your personality should be at least three paragraphs long. If you're
having trouble getting length, ask yourself random questions about
your character and they might give you new ideas to write about:
If your character carried a bag, what would they have in it? Why?
What do they think about the situation in South Africa? Do they
even know that there's a situation in South Africa? If your character
were a nail polish color, what would it be? When your character
was little, did they like the taste of crayons, playdoh or glue
better?
*Try to add something exciting to your character's history and maybe
tie it into who they are now. Maybe they broke their leg and have
a limp now, or maybe their leg was broken, but they healed completely
and nothing's wrong with them now.
-Don't try to butter up members of the RPG if you are an applicant.
This will, usually, earn you a harder review.
-Submit your application only once and do not message any members
about your impending review. If you have not heard anything in two
weeks, drop me a line and I'll talk with you about it. I will do
my best to make your review process as speedy and painless as possible.
-If you create an application linking your character to another
character before they're accepted, remember that there is a chance
that one of the other characters that your character is linked with
may not be accepted. This could potentially cause problems for both
you and your character if you are accepted and your friend's character
is not.
-Once your character is accepted, DO contact other members and
try to establish relationships between your character and theirs.
This will give the chance for growth and interaction--putting your
character in places where stories are likely to take place.
