NAME Rosemary Van Der Zee
MEANING

Rosemary -- An obvious reference to the flower, Rosemary comes from the Latin roots 'ros' and 'marinus' meaning "dew of the sea". Also, Rosmarus is the Swedish word for ‘walrus'. Rose was named for Rosemary Clooney, a popular singer from the 1950s and aunt of George Clooney.
Van Der Zee -- A Dutch surname literally translating to "of the sea". Rose's surname has created quite a few problems in her life. She can't seem to keep the same place when things are arranged alphabeticaly. Sometimes she's with the V's, sometimes the D's (as van Derzee) and occassionally the Z's. The true spelling is in fact "Van Der Zee".
NICKNAMES To her father Rosemary is Ro or Roro, and to her brother, Fish Eggs. Rosemary is quite alright with being addressed by her full name or as Rose, but does not approve of people calling her Mary. Calling her Rosie is also unacceptable.

AGE 21
BIRTH DATE Feb 2nd (Aquarius)
BLOOD TYPE O

BIRTH PLACE Amsterdam, North Holland, The Netherlands. Grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
OCCUPATION Burrito Noches employee
STUDENT INVOLVEMENTS none
ACADEMIC STANDING 3rd year sophomore -- one credit away from being a junior. Don't ask her how that happened.
MAJOR Currently Anthropology.

SCHEDULE
Work. W R 9PM - 2AM. -- Rose doesn't have to work. Her father has more than enough money to support her and her brother. She works because she wants to--it's a great opportunity to meet people and she has a lot of fun. Because she's unmotivated by the monetary reward, Rose is notoriously known as the "laziest motherfucker" at Burrito Noches. At the same time, however, she's never called off sick and often shows up early or stays late to help clean up--it's just when she has to work that she somehow seems to be missing.
Almost on schedule, once a week, Rosemary gets caught by her boss slacking off or causing trouble and he tells her she's fired. However, Rose keeps showing up and he keeps giving her pay checks, so it's understood that this is a joke for the two of them.
Anthropology 401 -- Fundamentals of Archaeology; M W -- Rose likes to call this "Introduction to Indiana Jones" so that it sounds super cool, but really it's so boring that it makes her cry. She never misses a class, but she also reserves this time to work on her knitting.
Geological Sciences 206 -- Principles of Oceanography T W R -- A basic science GEC, Rose took this class with her roommate, Matthew, on a whim, because they wanted a GEC that wouldn't have many freshmen. Neither would know whether or not there are freshman, because they only attend the class on important lab and test days.
Anthropology 305 -- Introduction to Forensic Anthropology T R -- Rose absolutely loves this class. She calls the professor Gil Grissom and doesn't actually know his real name. She's doing well, but the professor makes you go to his office hours to get your grades, and since she'd probably accidentally call him Gil, she doesn't visit him.

LIKES movies, going to an empty theater by herself, spending days at the dollar theater, pop culture, knitting, shopping for yarn, work--both the place and the people (not so much the activity), talking with family, food and eating, surfing, flirting, travel, large storms (not the piddley shitrain Columbus gets), birds (especially ducks), walking
DISLIKES being identified as Daniel Van Der Zee's daughter, women who try to date Daddy, women who try to date Charlie, zoos and aquariums, pet stores, Sea World, Ohio, shoes, driving in big cities, driving in general, overly serious people, parties, bars on the weekend, large gatherings of unfamiliar people, working out, seeing trash in water
HOBBIES knitting, feeding ducks, working, getting fired, going to the movies by herself (and occassionally with friends), drinking with good friends, surfing (well, not anymore), dancing in front of the mirror, going for long walks, occassionally jogging, making up lame excuses so she doesn't have to go to the gym, picking trash out of mirror lake if it's within reach, watching the Dodgeball Syndicate after work and flirting with the boys

SKILLS
A School of Fans. Much to Rosemary's chagrin, marine animals seem to be incredibly interested in her. In pet stores, fish will swim to the front of their aquariums and follow her as she moves--more so than they follow other people. In larger places, like at a zoo aquarium, sea creatures large and small swim forward to get a better look at her. There have even been several instances of goldfish jumping out of their bowls at her--some even going down her shirt.
Rosemary's fear of sea critters stems from this, and she absolutely refuses to go to Sea World, fearing that Shamu may squish her.

Do You Smell That? More a weakness than a skill, Rose has no sense of smell. Strangely, she can still taste things--which is unusual for people who cannot use their sense of smell. This has led to several issues with leaving the oven on, but saves her from the horrible ginkgo tree smell in late Autumn. Because she lacks a sense of smell, Rose is deeply paranoid about her own scent, often wondering if she's rancid, and usually ends up showering at least twice a day and uses many fancy soaps.

Reminds me of the Sea. Even with all her showering and fancy soaps, Rosemary seems to always smell like the ocean. It's a pleasant, salty but clean aroma and for some reason, people seem prone to saying, "Man, I sure would like to go to the beach this summer!" when she's around.

Acute Eyesight and Hearing While Submerged. Rosemary's no Superman, but while she's submerged in water, she can see as though she's wearing goggles and hear things quite clearly that would ordinarily be muffled. The sight aspect of this skill doesn't get exercised as much as the hearing part does; chlorine seriously irritates Rose's eyes, and she prefers not to use her 'fish vision' (which she doesn't realize isn't completely normal) unless she's swimming in a body of untreated water. ble thing by just getting her hands on something similar and seeing how it's been put together. This skill comes from experience, rather than natural ability. Rosemary's been knitting long enough that most of her pieces look very nice, but she rarely finds use for anything, save scarves, hats and the occassional sweater, and ends up giving a lot of things away.

Crafty. Although she's never learned to read a pattern, and has a horrible time coming up with completely new designs, Rosemary has the ability to create pretty much any knittable item after getting her hands on something similar and looking at how it's made. This is due to practice, rather than some sort of magical influence, as Rose has been knitting from an early age. She has little use for what she makes, and usually ends up giving things away, although she does have a ridiculously large collection of scarves and hats that have each only been worn once.

Fluency. Rosemary may've been raised in Virginia, but she's spent enough time visiting family and her father's fans in the Netherlands that she's as fluent in Dutch as she is in English. Despite the fact that most people in the Netherlands speak English fluently, she still felt as though learning the language would be a good idea. She usually reserves Dutch for speaking on the phone with family members, who are actually usually replying in English.

PERSONALITY

Eccentric;
The phrase "Daughter of a Celebrity" evokes the image of a snobbish, skinny blonde with a tiny dog tucked under her arm and ridiculously large sunglasses covering her face, and although Rosemary has been known to don ridiculously large sunglasses on occasion she doesn't quite embody the spoiled, rich 'celebutant' image.
At the same time, however, Rose is not a run-of-the-mill college girl. Even at first glance, you can tell there's something different about her, and it's not just what she's wearing (although that can be kind of weird, at times, too). Because of her liberal upbringing Rose was allowed to entertain even her strangest ideas without being frowned at or scolded for being too "different"; for this reason, she doesn't feel the need to conform.
In Rose's eyes, conformity, not eccentricity, is the negative. Of course, Rose is not actively trying to be the opposite of whatever is normal (she thinks that's kind of annoying, too). Rather than being obsessed with the evils of conformity as so many younger people are, Rose is eccentric because she doesn't concern herself with what others would think about her behavior; she does things to make herself happy.

Wild;
Although not in the crazy Tara Reid or "Girls Gone…" sense, Rosemary has, on more than one occasion, been described with the word wild. Although, 'untamed' would be a more apt description. Rose is a free spirit, an uncontrollable and unpredictable force. She rarely caves under the pressure of her peers, and is extremely capricious, often acting without first consulting with others.
It should come as no surprise to find that Rosemary's wildness is seen by many as one of her worst traits, and rightfully so, as Rose is very flighty and uncommitted.

Self-Indulgent;
Unless you know that Rosemary comes from a very well to do family (and Rose tries to make sure that most people don't), it's not entirely evident that Rosemary behaves in a self-indulgent way. Yes, she is spoiled, but rather than expecting to get presents and having things done for her, Rose expects to be allowed to do what she wants without interference. This, obviously, goes hand in hand with what has been stated before: Rose's actions are not influenced by others, but are rather almost entirely guided by what she wants to do.

Not a Delinquent;
Despite what the current description of Rose may convey, all this should most certainly not be misconstrued to mean that Rosemary is a belligerent rule breaker because that's not what she is at all. She's not going around breaking the law, and although her conscience does seem to work in strange ways at times, she knows the difference between right and wrong and is not guiltless. Rose can seem like trouble at first, but she's actually a very kind and good natured person who, although not concerned with how people feel about her, dislikes seeing others suffer. Aside from the occasional prank, she's actually very reluctant to do something harmful to another person, unless that other person is trying to bring her to an evil black cloud that wants to tear her apart and turn her into a zombie.

Magnetic;
Outgoing, uninhibited and socially energetic, Rosemary has very little problem meeting new people and making new friends. She's easy to get along with because she's buoyant and friendly, even joking with those who she ordinarily would not get along with. Rose is extremely easy going, and can let things go even if they're getting to her; she is able to keep a level head in most situations, although once she starts getting really mad, it's hard for her to calm down.

Subtly Overbearing but not Manipulative;
Rose is the kind of person that easily draws you in, and if you're not careful, quickly overwhelms you. Although she insists that she isn't bossy, she's really got a nasty habit of pushing her opinions on others. She does this subtly (as the section's title suggests), by phrasing things so they sound more like questions and suggestions and less like stated commands: "Doesn't that sound cool? Don't you think it's neat? I don't know about you, but it seems kind of cool to me. Maybe you should try it."
If you realize what she's doing, it can be kind of obnoxious, but calling her on it does little good; she'll think you're crazy. Rose doesn't think that what she's doing is being pushy and were she to try and manipulate or coerce another person actively she would fail miserably.

Corny;
Rosemary is a silly person; that's something you can tell just by looking at her. She loves laughing and dislikes having to take things too seriously. She's good-natured and usually clean in her joking, preferring a bad pun to a raunchy sex joke (although you can keep your goddamned fish jokes to yourself, Valdis).
One thing Rose does not appreciate is sarcasm; she can handle one or two biting comments, but she finds sarcasm to be overdone and boring, and the people who use it to excess are seen as rather unoriginal. Teasing is a different story, though; it's rather different from sarcasm, and she tends to tease everyone about everything all the time. Her teasing is rarely very serious, and often comes off as rather lame or corny (a perfect example of this is her constant need to tell people she can see their naught bits when they transform).

Detached;
Despite being a relatively likeable person (at least she likes to think that), Rose has never really liked people back and (as will be elaborated on later) she has a great deal of difficulty trusting others and entering relationships that aren't just superficial. It's natural that Rosemary be detached, if she weren't, she would certainly have a hard time acting the way she does.
Rose has never been very impressed with her peers: in grade school they were obsessed with being mature, in high school they were all sneaky and self-serving and in college everyone just wants a quick lay. For this reason, she has very little respect for other people, and doesn't really see any reason to care about what they think.

Aggressive, to an extent;
Rosemary is bold, assertive and straightforward, although not quite to the point of being tactless. Tact can be relative, of course, and a more 'uptight' person may be taken aback by Rose's rather unladylike behavior. Rose's aggressiveness isn't hostility, of course, as she's dislikes picking fights, but she vigorously declares her opinions and will usually stand by them, but this is where the "to an extent" part comes in.
Strangely, Rose has a penchant for just letting go. This can sometimes be a good thing: Rose is more likely to back down when she knows she's going to lose, and she's less likely to start a fight because of something she believes in. At the same time, though, Rose is completely wishy-washy. One second she appears irritated and angry, and the next she's changed the subject.
This behavior can seem very, very strange, but it's Rose's way of avoiding conflict-something she's incredibly uncomfortable with because she's afraid of, among other things, losing and her own temper. By letting go of an argument, and hopefully changing the subject, Rose can avoid being wrong and starting a fight all at once. Obviously, most people won't let this sort of thing slide as easily as Rose would, but approaching her about it is a surefire way to quickly upset her.

Territorial--well, kind of;
Rose is territorial in the same way that she is aggressive. If it weren't for the fact that she waffles so much, Rosemary could be seen as a fiercely overprotective person (a trait that she inherited from her father). Rose is defensive of her friends, especially, and is always afraid that someone is trying to steal them away, hence her dislike of significant others. She's quick to drop the super protective act, though, if she notices that whatever she's being protective of is having a better time in the hands of another. That, of course, doesn't stop her from stewing with anger and jealousy, though.

Goalless;
It's kind of odd for anyone to be able to let things slide as easily as Rosemary does, but a closer look into her persona gives way to what's really going on: Rose isn't driven at all. She lacks goals in life, both long term and short term. It's not that Rose likes to 'live in the moment', either, she just lacks motivation. She doesn't care enough about anything, and because of this ends up ruining projects, grades and friendships very quickly.

Just Flirtatious;
"Cockteaste", that's what they call her at work, and rightfully so. Rose loves flirting like a gamer loves owning noobs, but it's only flirting that she's interested in and she's got a bad habit of stringing people on for long periods of time. To her credit, Rose never promises anything, her flirting is very innocent, but she does it so frequently and so convincingly that she almost always comes off as serious, leaving many young men and women very, very confused.
Rose thinks it's hilarious when people approach her for a little 'something more' and generally responds with a lot of laughter. Obviously, this earns Rose a lot of enemies (and has ended quite a few friendships), but it's become a sort of 'rite of initiation' for new guys working at Burrito Noches--to be fooled by the Hottie Burrito Chick. She's never actually considered the dangers inherent in playing with people's emotions, and, obviously, doesn't really care about the reputation this behavior has earned her.
This, of course, isn't to say that Rose doesn't feel attracted to anyone at all ever, she just flirts equally with all people. If you really want to know if Rosemary is interested, try to make her jealous-the level of obvious jealousy in her face is a passable gauge for how much she likes you. Of course, just because Rose likes you doesn't mean she's interested in pursuing a relationship or even discussing the matter at all, but we'll talk about that later.

Private;
Most people love to talk about themselves, and that's why Rosemary is so likeable. Rose has no problem with sitting around chatting about YOU and YOUR HISTORY and YOUR INTERESTS and YOUR FRIENDS, and that's a big plus for most people (especially the narcissistic). She doesn't pry; it's just her method of avoiding talking about herself. Rose doesn't want you to know that she's the daughter of Daniel Van Der Zee, and that she drives a BMW, and that she's ridiculously wealthy. She doesn't want you to know about her life prior to college or her roommate or, especially, any of the nasty faults that she's imagined herself to have.
Her experiences prior to college, with children (and parents) practically mooching off her father's money and fame, have left her with a sour taste in her mouth, and ever since elementary school, she's never been too keen on letting other people know who she is. It should go without saying that Rose's privacy does not extend to her behavior; she's a very open, talkative and outgoing person. What it does do, however, is make her a little mysterious…that is, if you even notice that she doesn't talk about herself. She usually tries to keep people busy with other things so that they don't notice.

Short Attention Span;
Going along with the rest of Rosemary's persona, it should come as no surprise that she's about as attentive and dedicated as a second grader. Rose loses interest in things easily, which makes her waffling all the more apparent. She sinks into boredom very easily, and ends up seeking the fastest way to end it--which is usually going to the MYTHOS house and grabbing something to eat, that place is pretty happenin'. Although, when it comes to people, Rose tries to remain polite; she'll try to get the point across with looking as unentertained as possible, and if that's not obvious enough, she will politely excuse herself.

Self-Aware;
With the exception of her overbearing personality, Rosemary is incredibly aware of all of her faults. Actually, she's "aware" to the extent that she tends to come up with faults that aren't true and she worries about them incessantly. Rose knows that she waffles; she realizes that she's goalless and uncommitted, but she doesn't really make an effort to change these things (unsurprising, considering her lack of drive). Most of the flaws that Rose makes up are psychological ("I'm stupid" "I'm a hypochondriac" "I've got an annoying laugh"), she's actually very confident in her physical appearance.
At the same time, Rose isn't really attentive enough to notice flaws in other people. She's judgmental enough to begin with, but somehow manages to not see flaws other than the most glaring ones.

Paranoid;
To go along with her extreme self-awareness, Rose is a rather paranoid person. It's more paranoia about herself, but does, occasionally, incorporate other people, especially those she's not particularly fond of. Rose is constantly worried that something is heightening one of her many imagined faults. By far, she is most paranoid of her body odor, and is constantly washing up and/or showering.

A Few Anger Management Issues;
Up to this point, Rosemary has been described as being very laid back (if a bit strange and spoiled), so it can be quite surprising to hear that she's got a reputation of exploding with the force of the Hiroshima bomb when angry. What leads to these outbursts of anger? People, of course. Although she does have a knack for "letting things slide", Rose also tends to be very judgmental and paranoid. If something does get to her, it sticks and quickly begins to fester, upsetting her further within a matter of minutes.
Once Rose has worked herself up, it's extremely hard to talk her back down (although offerings of food have been known to quell her rage). Surefire signs of the coming tempest include irritable, awkward silences and snappy comments. Generally, Rose's anger tends to build, with her becoming more obviously angry until she, as mentioned, 'explodes' with anger often doing and saying things that will come back and bite her later.
After expelling her anger, Rose returns to a normal mood. Since people insist on constantly reminding her, Rosemary is well aware that this is an "unhealthy practice"; it's obvious, though, that she, herself, doesn't actually believe it.
It would be entirely natural for a person to develop a fierce hatred for Rose and her crazy bouts of anger if they didn't know her very well. However, Rose tends to reserve this sort of behavior only for close friends because they are the ones who possess the ability to say and do things that genuinely hurt Rosemary's feelings.

Poor Judgment while Mad;
Rose's tantrums tend to last, at the very most only a few minutes and on average around seventy seconds. Those seventy seconds, though, can be quite a detriment to you and those around you (especially furniture and walls). Just what led to Rosemary's lack of good judgment is up in the air, though it's probably because she was raised, primarily, by men.
Stereotypically, when a woman around Rose's age gets angry, she does things subtly-giving the cold shoulder, exclusion, generally making life a living hell for those around her-and while Rosemary's anger certainly starts out this way, it quickly builds up and usually results in at least one solid punch to a nearby wall (end result: broken fingers and/or a hole, depending on what the wall's made of). Rose also has a nasty habit of saying and doing things that, although she certainly means them, she will regret later.

He-Man Girlfriend Hater;
Nothing about Rosemary really screams feminist to begin with, but at the same time, the opinion she has of some of her fellow females can be quite surprising. Rose is incredibly suspicious of other women, believing that they're all (with the exception of Rose herself, twinkle twinkle smile smile) after something: money, fame, presents, whatever. This attitude toward other women, though formerly reserved only for women interested in her father, has grown to incorporate ladies going after her brother and, on rare occasion, young women dating her friends, as well. In the presence of an accused gold digger, Rose becomes cold, distant and obviously grumpy. Frowning often, remaining mostly silent and quickly working herself up into one of her blind rages. Her behavior, obviously, is not purely in the interest of defending her male friends, but is rather based out of jealousy.
Rose definitely does not see all women as evil and greedy-only the ones dating her father, and the moment Daniel starts dating, Rosemary shifts into full offensive mode (something you really don't get to see in any other instance) and has taken weekends to return home and ruin the relationship before anything can start. This is the one instance in which Rosemary drops her carelessness and shows friends the full extent of her protectiveness. She's absolutely horrified at the thought of her father having a new woman in his life and will go to all lengths to prevent him from getting serious. Not surprisingly, no one tells Rose about her father's girlfriends anymore.

She's Got a Problem With Everyone;
Rose isn't going to let her guy friends off the hook so easily, either. She's under the impression that most men aren't thinking with their brains, and while, obviously, this is not always the case, she can't help but be a little cynical when it comes to male friendship. Not that she's the type to make close friends quickly, anyway, but she's less likely to make a real connection with a man than she is with a woman. Most of her male friends, with the exception of her roommate, are just people she'll pal around with; she doesn't really forge strong bonds with guys, and does her best to avoid emotional attachment.
If it hasn't already been made obvious yet, Rosemary is rather judgmental and has a poor opinion of other people.

Poor Speaker;
Despite being able to learn both English and Dutch with ease, Rose has exhibited a great deal of difficulty with expressing herself through speech. She relies heavily upon curse words to express emotion, and is always injecting hesitation noises into conversations. This inability to translate thoughts into words is actually Rose's primary motivation for her reluctance to fight with others; she knows that if it is a verbal war, which it usually is, she will lose horribly.
When Rose gets worked up, her prowess with words decreases even more, which is why she becomes so quiet when she starts to get upset. It's incredibly hard to find out what Rose is upset about, especially after she's exploded, because it becomes nearly impossible for her to describe why she is angry.
Rose's body language overcompensates for her inability to communicate effectively, and often gives away emotions that she would really rather not reveal.

The Fish Curse;
Rose has been suffering what she has not so affectionately deemed 'The Fish Curse' since before she can even remember. This strange aspect of her life has actually had more affect on her than one would think, although, had she not been raised on the coast, this may not have been such a great problem.
As mentioned in skills, fish are attracted to Rosemary in the same way that teenage girls were attracted to Michael Jackson in the early nineties. It's as though they have a fanatical adoration of her, if fish were capable of such a thing, and they must be near her. This has, on more than one occasion, seriously spooked Rose. She's terrified of zoos and pet stores and fish in general. She also feels a little bad about eating the poor buggers, since they seem to love her so much, so she tries to avoid eating seafood.
Because of the fish curse, Rosemary has earned several obnoxious nicknames from her older brother, including 'fish eggs', from the fact that her father calls her Ro ("Hey, that sounds like roe! HUR HUR!").

Everything's Changing;
Taking the rest of her personality into account, it's actually quite surprising that Rosemary is as gung-ho about the MYTHOS organization as she is. Rosemary herself notices this and it really bothers her. Although she's very sensitive about the subject, she seeks out the opinions of other reborn soldiers in private, asking them if they feel any different. In general, Rosemary's changes are for the better: she's becoming less of a careless waste of life, but she's very aware of these changes and how quickly they are taking effect. Her father says she's just growing up, but she thinks it has something to do with this transformation business.

APPEARANCE
HAIR: "Blue, with transient blue"--that's what Rosemary says about her hair. It's a mixture of many different shades of green and blue: sapphire, azure, cornflower, seafoam, turquoise, periwinkle, and lots of other fun-sounding words that are just variations of dark or light blue and green. Rose's hair, which certainly couldn't be viewed at just 256 color setting, is semi-long (falling to mid-back) and extremely curly. She keeps most of the loose curls tucked behind her ears, and allows her hair to tumble just over her shoulders; flyaway curls are always falling into her face, and she has to constantly push them back behind her ears, because otherwise they get in her way. Her bangs are parted slightly off center and swept to the side.

FACIAL FEATURES: Curly blue hair aside, the rest of Rose's appearance is exotic enough to betray her Indonesian heritage (or, at least, her "some country in the Pacific" heritage). Her face is long and thin; her cheekbones are high and the rest of her features sharp and angular. Rose's almond-shaped eyes are dark blue. Her nose is small, long and almost flat; not protruding far from her face, it points down. It doesn't take an empath to tell what Rose is thinking: the expression on her face is always quite animated, and a telltale sign of how she's feeling at that moment. Normally, she wears a crooked grin, but her true smile is so broad that you can see her top and bottom teeth.

BUILD: Rose is about 5'7"--a little taller than average. Though once a small girl, her departure from every-day dance training has allowed her to put on weight and fill out a little. She's curvaceous, but moreso cutely pear shaped because of lovehandles and a large rear. Her backside is the subject of many jokes for friends and MYTHOS members, and she's been likened to Jennifer Lopez on more than one occassion.

SENSE OF STYLE: A strange belt, a lot of bracelets and bangles, a splash of a bright color, a sarong over some jeans, a weird almagation of different shirts and sweaters layered on top of each other--Rosemary likes to take a normal set of clothes and do strange things to them. She could easily be one of the horribly dressed street models in the FRUiTS magazines, except with less bags and more showering.

GAIT: I'd say excuse the pun, but they've all been intended so far, so: Rosemary's movements are always fluid. She moves with confidence and grace through crowds and is surprisingly agile. She's got a few nervous ticks, like pushing her hair out of her face (although this gesture is often just one of annoyance, because her hair is in her face), but other than that generally seems incredibly at ease in her movements.

HISTORY
There were a lot of things about the union of Daniel Van Der Zee and Kartini Daratista that made the couple seem very "Hollywood", but not in the way that one would think. For one, Daniel and Kartini were never married.

They met on the set of Daniel's third movie. Mr. Van Der Zee was North Holland's golden child of cinema: his movies always met with great acclaim in Europe, and he was quickly rising in fame and power. Kartini, on the other hand, was an intern looking for a part in his movie. Rather than getting the part, the relatively unskilled Kartini ended up stealing Daniel's heart with her mysterious beauty.

Daniel and Kartini's casual dating because serious very quickly, and it wasn't long before they had moved in together. The first year and a half went surprisingly well, but then Kartini got pregnant. It seemed, to others, that the pregnancy revealed the true Kartini to everyone, but Daniel kept insisting that it was merely hormones.

Kartini became fickle, angry and unappeasable, and Daniel, who was hopelessly in love with her, would drop everything in a moment to rush to her side. After their first child, a son, was born, Daniel decided that he wanted to settle down and get married. Kartini did not agree with this, and took up a new hobby: cheating. Daniel, being a bit dumb to relationships, didn't want to believe it at first, but gradually grew to accept that Kartini was not as faithful as he was.

When Kartini caught wind of Daniel's plan to end the relationship, she begged him to forgive her and reconsider his decision. Contrary to his normal behavior, Daniel refused Kartini. She left, taking nothing, and leaving her son in the care of his father and grandparents; Kartini would reappear though, some time later.

Nine months before Rosemary was born, Kartini met up with Daniel, "by chance" at a crew party for Daniel's most recent film. She charmed him, as she had done six years earlier, and they ended up sharing one night together. Kartini disappeared again, only to return three months later announcing that she was pregnant, again, with Daniel's child.

Reasonably, Daniel was skeptical, but he took Kartini in anyway out of guilt. The exotic beauty, who had, up until this point, proved to be quite a pain in the ass, was actually easy to be around for the next six months. Toward the end of her pregnancy, though, it became obvious that trouble would be starting again-Kartini's eye began to wander, and she seemed to shut herself off from Daniel and his family, despite the fact that she lived with them. Rosemary had not been around for more than a month when her mother disappeared; she packed her bags with her things (and possibly the belongings of Daniel's mother) and left.

This is how Rosemary has always heard the story of her mother, and it is why she is so strongly opposed to relationships. She has, on occasion, doubted if this story is really true (especially as she became older and learned that parents and grandparents are not the infallible gods that you think they are when you're eight years old), but generally believes it anyway. Even if the story is partially fabricated, it has already done its damage on Rosemary's personality, and she's been heavily effected because of it.

Rosemary was born in February, and she had barely spent a month in Amsterdam before her father accepted an offer to move to the US and start up a contract with a California-based Hollywood production company. In mid-March, the Van Der Zee family (Dan, Rose, Charlie and grandparents) moved to the United States.
Daniel, who had heard nasty rumors of life in Hollywood, decided it was best to keep his children far, far away from it, and so he established a large home in Virginia, on the shore.

Rose's early years were hardly normal. She spent the majority of her pre-school time traveling with her father, who doted and adored his daughter, and never missed an opportunity to show her off like an expensive and beautiful piece of jewelry, and her older brother. Daddy took Rose and Charlie around with him on sets and to premiers, and the children enjoyed themselves thoroughly. However, when it came time for Rose to start school, Daniel thought it best that Rose not be moved around as much as Charlie was during his first few years of school, and so he sent both children back home to Virginia Beach to get a more normal education.

Neither child was very pleased by this change of pace, and Rosemary, especially, was very upset about her father abruptly cutting her out of his traveling. Although the bitterness would linger for several years, it quickly took a back seat to everything else that Rosemary was suddenly dealing with.

Rose was like every other little girl her age. She wanted so desperately to be involved in a million different activities: piano, guitar, horseback riding, dance, girl scouts, gymnastics, youth sports, and whatever else caught her eye. Of course, this is Rosemary we're talking about, and she ended up dropping everything but dance, which had managed to hold her attention long enough to really reel her in.

School was definitely an experience for Rosemary, but it wasn't really a good one. Although she had no trouble making friends, earning the adoration of her teachers was a whole other story. Most of them thought of her "antics" as a cry for attention, and Rosemary constantly found herself in trouble for some reason. Rose detested school, partially because her father had shoved her into it and partially because the people were so ridiculous.

Early in her elementary school years, Rose became aware of what the other children, and their parents, really wanted. Kids wanted to go to Rosemary's house to play with cool toys and stay in a big house; parents wanted to go to Rosemary's house to land their "super talented" child a role in one of Daniel's movies (even though most of them only knew that he was 'a Hollywood director'). Her reaction to this was to shut herself off, which didn't really seem to work. By seventh grade, she was surrounded by people who called themselves her friends, but only really liked one or two of the other children.

High school was a much-needed change of pace for Rosemary, who loved that the teachers weren't constantly nagging her for something. She earned herself a spot on the dance team, and dedicated most of her time to it, despite the fact that she disliked her coach immensely. Academically, Rose continued to attain mediocre grades, but managed to stay eligible without much effort on her part. Socially, Rose found herself instantly frustrated with the hive mind mentality of girls, and the obsession with growing up and being in a "steady" relationship and, though once again surrounded by girls who wanted parts in movies, found herself spending more time with the more socially awkward students.

In high school, Rosemary's father warmed up to the idea of letting Rose travel with him again, just as he had done with her older brother. She was allowed to go with him to California during long breaks, and in Los Angeles she took up surfing as a way to pass the time while Daddums was busy. California was where Rose began dating, though never seriously. She became something of a serial dater, but never actually entered into a steady "relationship".
It was around her sixteenth birthday that Rose's father released his first really "big" movie stateside. Daniel invited his daughter to accompany him as his 'date' to his movie's premier, and, overjoyed, she accepted. Although Daniel's movie only enjoyed moderate success in the big picture, it had strengthened his position on the US independent movie scene and he was beginning to catch media attention.

Most notably was a picture of Rosemary, looking much more dolled up than she usually did, with her father outside of the theater before the movie's screening. This image earned Rose a lot of unwanted attention; there was an initial wave of scandal over Daniel reputedly "dating a girl decades younger than he was." After this, however, Rose found herself inundated with calls and letters offering the Van Der Zee daughter modeling jobs. Each offer was met with an outright rejection - Rose liked food far too much to live on salad alone, and she found long ago that, in general, models and actresses were unpleasant people to be around.

The offers continued for the duration of Rosemary's high school career, but she grew quite accustomed to them and just started ignoring them. During her junior year, Rose took a trip, on a whim, to the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She was so charmed by the campus (it must've been nice out that day), that she decided that it was the place she had to go. She applied after taking the ACTs, which she had done surprisingly well on, considering her poor grades, and was accepted after submitting her application at the very last minute in the middle of her senior year.

Rosemary's senior had started year started out with a bang, when the coach of her dance line decided to make her daughter, a sophomore, the captain of the team. Rose ended up eventually pointing out that her coach, a "stupid moldy cunt", had "never even matured out of high school" and needed to "grow up and drop the fucking nepotism". Before she could be kicked off the team, Rose quit. The fight earned her accolades from the upper classmen and their parents; most of the junior and senior girls followed suit and turned their uniforms in the next day. Surprisingly, Rosemary managed to dodge punishment - the argument had occurred off of school grounds, and her coach seemed too shocked to actually make a move.

She tried to make the rest of her year more low key, but found it difficult to suppress her senioritis, which manifested itself in testiness with her teachers and very obvious disgust at the underclassmen. Nothing quite as "big" as Rose's "explosion" happened for the rest of the year. Before graduating, Rose was voted "most likely to be a movie star", she replied to this by signing yearbooks with: "To my biggest fan, Fuck You, XOXOXOXOXO Rosemary Van Der Zee :D".

Rose was thrilled to be going to college, but once she got there, her opinions changed. Her roommate assignment was hardly peachy, the two girls she was assigned with had apparently formed a strong bond before coming to school, and Van Der Zee was the odd woman out. This didn't bother her too much, as her roommates were the type to engage in dieting and noisy sex with random college guys, two things that Rose was decidedly uninterested in.

The noisy sex eventually prompted Rosemary to get a job working at the nearby late night cafeteria, Burrito Noches. Seven days a week, 9PM to 2AM, Rosemary made burritos for hungry insomniac college students. Through work, Rose met and befriended her current roommate, Matthew Bosko. The manwhore and the cocktease were a perfect pair, and they agreed to make arrangements to live with each other the following year.

Year two was the year of the major changes. Rosemary bounced from international studies to psychology to sociology and finally, at the end of the year, to anthropology. The rest of the year was fairly boring; she managed to ruin one of her father's relationships before it had even started and agreed to live with Matthew Bosko for another year.

Rose's third year at OSU is about to start and it looks like she's got her work cut out for her, especially with all those goddamned letters coming in for her.

RELATIONS
Matthew Bosko, roommate; A twenty-two-year-old from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Matt is outgoing and honest--traits which initially lured Rose to him--clingy, romantic and way oversexxed. Matty and Rose hit it off when they started working together and eventually decided to live together. Matt calls himself "gay", but really he's just a slutty manwhore and will sleep with pretty much anything; it's as though he hasn't grown out of the high school mentality of 'it's cool to be gay' and so continues to see himself as a homosexual. Matt is one of the few people outside her own family that Rose shows true concern for, often checking to make sure he's okay, and going out of her way to keep him happy and safe.
Matty works out regularly, much to Rosemary's dismay, and despite his height (about 5'6) looks very strong. His hair is rather long, shaggy and sandy blonde, and his eyes are golden brown. Rosemary and Matty have never been romantically involved.

Daniel Van Der Zee, father; A Dutch writer-director, Daniel gained much of his fame before Rosemary was born and he continues today to garner attention, although this time it's stateside. Dan is kind, trusting and extremely protective of his daughter--he's about as happy to hear about her romantic endeavors as she is to hear about his. The two share a close relationship, and speak on the phone often.
In regard to fame, Daniel would probably be known by someone whose into foreign drama and comedy. Most of his films have not been released into major theaters, although he's had several shown at the Wexner Center on campus and one of his films is slated to appear in theaters like the one in the Campus Gateway once it's finished.
As an additional note, Daniel has the worst taste in women. He is a sweet, but shallow man, and is attracted to looks before personality, and has, on more than one occassion, started messy relationships with gold diggers. Rosemary does her best to protect her father from the evils of women, which means that she prevents him from ever dating anyone.

Charles Van Der Zee, elder brother; Six years Rosemary's senior, Charlie is the troublesome Van Der Zee child. Charles is your typical older brother--always picking on his sister, trying to shock her, scare her or gross her out--but he and Rose have a strong relationship. Charming, witty and intelligent, Charlie has a lot of the traits that Rose lost out on. Despite only living in the Netherlands for the first few years of his life, Charles tends to slip in and out of an accent; this is especially apparent when attractive young American girls are around, because they seem to go ga-ga over his accent.
Charlie finished his undergrad at NYU's acting school and is currently looking for work. His father refuses to cast him until he's established himself in something else first.

Kartini Daratista, mother; Rosemary's mother ran off shortly after her daughter's birth. This sort of behavior was fairly normal for the flighty and fickle woman. Daniel called it quits after this ordeal and Rosemary has never actually met her mother.

MYTHOS Soldier

ALIGNMENT MYTHOS
NAME Sailor Amphitrite
ELEMENT(S) OF INFLUENCE marine life, The Sea
SYMBOL The ancient symbol for pisces: Two half-circles facing away from each other, one dot in each semi-circle's basin.
CHALLENGE "Just because Aquaman's a loser doesn't mean I am. Making fish look badass, the beautiful sea queen--Sailor Amphitrite!"

UNIFORM
LOCKET: (PICTURE)
Tiny red crab legs jut out from each side of Amphitrite's circular abalone shell locket. The front of the locket is plated in polished abalone interior, giving it a smoky opaline look; this is framed in brown and rough abalone shell exterior. From the bottom of the locket dangle two strings of three pearls each, and at the ends of these strings are a set crab pincers. The crab legs and pearls bounce around as Sailor Amphitrite moves.

COLOR SCHEME: Dark Turquoise and Corn

HAIR: Sailor Amphitrite's appearance commands attention, though not in an imposing way. Her hair, while transformed, is enough to draw glances from just about anyone. Her hair is a great deal longer and curlier than Rosemary's is, falling between her rear and her knees. Most importantly, her long blue locks are practically alive with sea life--starfish, seaweed, coral, shells, fishbones, and at least two living red crabs that scutter across her head and hang on frantically if they start to fall.
Rosemary, unsurprisingly, is horrified by all of this, and is constantly pulling things out of her hair, although she will admit that she feels a little bad for the crabs, and often finds herself helping them back up into the mess of blue tendrils.

LAURELS: Peeking out through amphitrite's sea-colored curls are the bright green leaves of a laurel wreath. Over the leaves, are a pair of red lobster pincers that point forward.

MINIDRESS; From far away, Sailor Amphitrite seems to sparkle in the light and upon closer inspection it becomes quite evident that all the dark turquoise parts of her uniform are covered in fish scales giving the uniform a slight silvery sheen. Other than this, and the fact that her outfit is sleeveless, the minidress and toga are standard.

ACCESSORIES; On each wrist, Amphitrite wears several bracelets of coral, pearl and shell bits. One of the bracelets has a tiny hermit crab shell strung on it complete with living crab.

HANDS & FEET; Sailor Amphitrite is barefoot, and that causes her a great deal of grief as she isn't particularly impervious to pointy things or hot cement. Her hands and feet are webbed, though, which makes it kind of difficult to grip things like pencils and kitchen knives.

TRANSFORMATION: "Amphitrite Power Make Up"
DESCRIPTION: As Rose shouts this, her locket opens and water spills out in a great deluge. Two dolphins, carrying golden nets in their mouths, circle around her and wrap her tightly in the netting. The dolphins then swim off and are replaced by schools of colorful fish that circle quickly around Rose's glittering white, net-wrapped body. This creates a whirlpool that sucks up all the the water and marine life.
After a brief moment's pause, the water and fish burst fourth again dramatically, leaving Sailor Amphitrite standing, completely dry, on what appears to be a platform of spouting water. She steps off onto the ground, usually pulling a fishbone from her hair in disgust.

ATTACK "Amphitrite's Bounty of the Sea"
DESCRIPTION: "Amphitrite's!" Calls up this ability as the sailor soldier thrusts one hand out and to the side. She closes her hands just in time for the corners of a glowing white fishnet to materialize in her palms. The shimmering cloth gracefully forms from its corners and drapes to the floor. She then swings her arms up and back to gain momentum shouting "Bounty of the sea!" and casting the net forward onto her target(s). The net will then wrap itself around the target(s), creating a completely spherical shape that flashes white before becoming a giant water-filled bubble. The person or thing trapped inside the bubble quickly and painlessly is reverted to a fish, although the noises that accompany this transformation hardly make the process sound like a fun time.
Once transformed, victims will remain in this state for between three and seven minutes, averaging out at five. They're stuck swimming around in their bubble for this time, and are extremely vulnerable to attacks, as the bubbles are very susceptible to popping and thus, leave victims open to suffocation. This is not a selective attack, it will work on anyone, with the exception of Amphitrite herself, and so allies are subject to "little accidents" or acts of revenge. Most targets, when transformed, will gain some physical mark that somehow identifies them as their true form--perhaps dark circles around the eyes for glasses, a scar, some freckles, red spots for red hair.
Nets don't grow on trees, you know and Amphitrite is only able to use this ability twice, at most, per 12 hour period. One net, at its largest, is able to hold five people of average size. One normal sized net can hold one to two people. The bubble itself molds its size to the size of its contents and functions very similarly to a water balloon--a smaller bubble will be much more durable and a larger bubble will most certainly be not-very-durable-at-all. The bubble will generally roll around gently for a second or two after the attack is performed and then come to a stop.

SPECIAL SKILLS & TRAITS
She's Toxic. Amphitrite is extremely poisonous, and this toxicity has plenty of room to expand and grow. Currently, she is able to extend and contract nematocytes (those are the things that jellyfish have on their tentacles) on her hands and feet. These defensive cells may be used to inject Amphitrite's weakest poison into her enemies.
Potential enemies should not brush Amphitrite's "weakest poison" aside as unthreatening. It is not fatal, but painful red rashes break out even after very brief contact with Amphitrite's poison. These rashes last around twenty minutes. If contact lasts longer than one or two seconds, the being injected with poison is stunned and numbed for a time of roughly double the length of skin contact. This packs a lot of punch, and makes hand-to-hand (or foot-to-face) combat a staple of Amphitrite's battle tactics.

Swim like a Fishy. Amphitrite's hands and feet are webbed and the tips of her fingers and toes are rather green-looking. She can swim easily underwater, but has difficulty gripping and holding things.

Breath-Holding Champion. Amphitrite has a series of gills that run down her neck and onto her chest. These gills remain closed while not submerged, and, once under water, take several seconds to kick into action. These gills function like normal gills and Amphitrite should be able to easily breathe underwater. However, it takes a conscious effort to switch from oral respiration over to gill respiration, and Amphitrite isn't very skilled at controlling this ability.

Hearing Voices? Amphitrite is a marine-life empath. While transformed, she is suddenly able to understand the emotion of aquatic animals, this is incredibly overwhelming (especially when there's a large school of fish), but the emotions are generally very muddled and hard to understand. With dolphins, however, Amphitrite can, at times, almost make out coherent thought.

Fish Magnet. The strange fish-luring abilities that Rosemary exibits while untransformed are magnified while she is Sailor Amphitrite.
