Sophitia's Family--A Mythological Look
This is a look at the mythological aspects of Sophitia's family. Each of
them have some sort of tie in with Greecian myth (generally prophets, though
her parents namesakes are lesser deities)
Nike - Sophitia's Mother
Nike is the Greek goddess of victory (in all aspects, not just battle). Born
of the titans Styx and Pallas, she is the sister of Zelos (Emulation), Kratos
(Force) and Bia (Violence) and though she was a descendant of the titans, she
still fought on the side of the Olympians. She is depicted in art as a red haired
goddess who weilds a scepter and wears a laurel wreath in her hair. Nike is
generally associated with the lynx.
Acheolus - Sophitia's Pa
Not to be confused with Aeolus, keeper of the winds and husband of Eos, Acheolus
is a god of rivers in Greek mythology and a symbol of storms in Wiccan practices.
Through the muse Calliope, he gave birth to the three sirens (Sophitia had two
siblings...).
Casandra - Sophitia's Younger Sister
Cassandra was a prophetess of ancient Greece and the daughter of the king and
queen of Troy, Priam and Hecuba. She was made into a prophetess because Apollo,
a god of music and the sun, fancied her but she rejected his advances and he
made it so that no one believed her. Apollo was probably taken by the priestess
because she was the most beautiful woman of her time.
In Soul Calibur II, Cassandra is a playable character. She steals the weapons
from Hepheastus' monument in an attempt to save her sister. I personally hate
Cassandra :D
Lucius - Sophitia's younger brother
Lucius is a name seen often in Greek mythology, mostly as a reference to a literary
character. Lucius translate literally as "light" in Latin.
Rothion - Sophitia's fiancee, and later, husband
Rothion's name does not appear anywhere in mythology as far as I can tell x_o;.
In the game, Rothion is a blacksmith who makes Sophitia's armor for her in Soul
Calibur ^^;
