About The Game
Final Fantasy Tactics is a strategy roleplaying game released for the playstation by Square-Enix on June 20, 1997 in Japan and January 29 1998 in the United States. Its drastic contrast from other Final Fantasy games would probably explain why it was given the title "Final Fantasy Tactics" over "Final Fantasy VIII." Final Fantasy Tactics takes place in the kingdom of Ivalice--a place that you may recognize from games like FFT-A and the upcoming FFXII--and had many of the elements of other classic Final Fantasy games, but a completely different form of gameplay. In this game, you are unable to run around cities speaking with townfolk, soldiers or other adventurers. Instead you are given a world map and offered towns to shop, listen to rumors and hire extra soldiers, and open fields to experience randomized battles.

You take the role of the hero, Ramza Beoulve, a lanky youth who at first probably resembles a young woman, and guide him through an adventure that starts simple enough but soon develops into much, much more. The inherent themes of manipulation, true nobility and infighting for supremacy are apparent even in the first chapter, however a player may not make these connections until later in the game. What starts with the death of your best friend's little sister soon develops into a fight to save the princess, your own sister and eventually the entire world.

Final Fantasy Tactics is unique among large casted RPGs in that it manages to excellently portray a large amount of characters, giving each of the non-generic characters a developed personality and interesting backstory. Each character that joins your party manages to deeply affect one character or another in some way, rather than simply joining because 'Hey! I felt like it!' Gameplay is challenging but fun and the story is engaging and mysterous. Final Fantasy Tactics is sure to keep you entertained for many hours, and the replay value is absoloutely excellent!
