| FAMILY Alma is the youngest of the four Beoulve children. She often considers Ramza her closest friend, and certainly feels she can relate to him better than she can relate with her older brothers. She spent the majority of her childhood in a monastery where she met Princess Ovelia. The two became close friends--so close that Ovelia says that Alma was 'her only real friend.' Alma is, essentially, the reason Ramza is pulled into this huge plot of world-destruction. Zalbag Beoulve, often the fan favorite, commands the Hokuten Knights after his father, Balbanes dies. He is described as hard-headed, stubborn and a bit dumb--although these terms may not be accurate, because Gafgarion and Dycedarg use them. It's quite obvious that Ramza looks up to this particular elder brother, and is quite bothered when Zalbag tells him that "Bad blood is bad blood." Dycedarg Beoulve is, like so many other characters in FFT, incredibly manipulative; this point is emphasized throughout the entire game, but only becomes strongly apparent in later chapters after it is blatantly pointed out. He is perhaps the only purely evil character in the game--with the exception of the Lucavi, for obvious reasons--because he causes so much death and suffering simply for his own betterment. Dycedarg is a poisons expert. One of two people in the kingdom of Ivalice to attain the rank of Heavenly Knight was Ramza's father, Balbanes Beoulve. He is a 50-year-war hero who helped to bring the fighting to an end along side his friend and ally, Cidoflas Orlandu. Balbanes's death is, at first, a mystery, but is explained later in the game. Ramza is most likened to Balbanes, whom he mirrors in nobility... and in appearance in many ways. Miss Ruglia is Ramza's mother. This is not stated in the American-English translation of the game, however it is clearly noted in the Japanese version. Miss Ruglia's first name is not given, however, but it IS suggested that she and Balbanes were not married at the time of Ramza's birth, making him a bastard child (which is also stated in the Japanese version. Actually, Ramza is called "Son of a mistress" or something). |
